Friends of Western Downland School
The Friends has charitable status and raises money to fund specific school activities, projects, or items not affordable from the school budget.
Last year the Friends raised over £12,000 through a combination of donations and various events. This superb amount, can be attributed to the hard work of our fund-raising event organisers and to the continued generosity of our parents and supporters, to whom we are extrememly grateful.
Rockbourne Fete in the Recreation Ground
Saturday 4th July 2009 from 2-5pm.
Friends will be running stalls . A great afternoon out for the family!
Where does the money go?
- A lot of our funds go towards the cost of school trips. This year we have provided subsidies amounting to nearly £3,500.
- £6,000 towards the cost of laptops at Rockbourne and PC's at Damerham.
- a digital piano
- a willow dome at Rockbourne and a willow tunnel at Damerham
- new football kits for the Football team
- a Forest Forge theatre production of ‘The Mouse and the Elephant‘
- plus many more smaller items
Who are the Friends?
Any parent/ guardian of a child attending Western Downland School is automatically a member of the Friends. Teachers, relatives or friends of the school can also be members.
How do we function?We have a commitee of about 12 members who meet twice a term to arrange forthcoming events and discuss expenditure. All members are busy parents, but by sharing the work load we are able to run consistently successful events. Everyone's contribution, however small is always valued and encouraged. If you feel that you would like to become more involved in supporting the school through the work of the Friends, please contact our Chairperson, Lisa Peart, or our Secretary, Lucy Nicholls, through either of the school offices.
